Bathurst was the backdrop last night for round four of the classic touring car series hosted by TORA, Touring Masters. Round four qualifying at the sunny yet technical circuit of Mount Panorama was always going to be a tricky round for most teams and predictions were that crashes galore would be seen, and as many know crashing at Bathurst usually means track blockages, great if you are ahead of such a pile up, race ruining if you are behind or part of such a pile up, last nights round however seen very little major issues with crashes.
Qualifying got underway and AnonCaliga placed his Virtual Pirtek Racing BMW E30 M3 in lobby B with a qualification time of 2:29.200.
VPR’s Nutter was next across the quali finish line after his fifteen minutes on track to set his best lap time. Nutter set a qualification time of 2:22.767 placing him 6th in lobby A for race start. Once again however it was VPR’s own wonder boy that turned up, set a best qualifying time of 2:21.436 and left the quali lobby to await the main race, Select Veepz putting his team car on pole for lobby A.
Lobby B was pretty much uneventful for VPR team owner AnonCaliga who placed his car in 9th place for the rolling race start and after running as high as 6th place during the race AnonCaliga, after an early pit stop, finished his race in 9th place where his race began taking 188 points for the VPR team tally.
In the lobby A race it was VPR’s Select Veepz who almost lead the entire race from his 1st place starting position but after the mandatory pit stop Veepz fell back into the pack behind along with the second place competitor. After several laps of swapping and changing places from first place to second place Veepz once again took the race lead where he remained leading the pack until he crossed the finish line taking the lobby A win and earning VPR another 227 points for the team tally.
Meanwhile VPR’s Nutter who started his race in 5th position in lobby A also swapped places several times with other cars ahead of him until the mandatory pit stop again came into play and as expected Nutter dropped several places into the pack behind who had yet to pit stop. Nutter battled with a lone Volkswagen Golf for 4th place that ran ahead of the VPR BMW, on the closing laps however and just a few corners from the finish line on the final lap the pair made gentle contact and although the race line was Nutter’s during the pass it was Nutter that done the gentlemanly thing and relinquished the position back to the VW Golf driver but in doing so the fast approaching car behind managed to catch and pass Nutter which saw the VPR BMW M3 of Nutter cross the line one place down from his original race starting position. Nutter took 205 points to add to the Virtual Pirtek Racing team standings tally by crossing the finish line in 6th position.
Due to the superb racing and points collected by the two top VPR team drivers, Select Veepz and Nutter, Virtual Pirtek Racing move back again to second place overall in the TORA Touring Masters team championship standings.
As it is officially now the mid season break for the TORA Touring Masters series and many other TORA racing series many competitors will be taking part in the annual virtual TORA 24 hours of Le Mans TEC event on June 11th which means the next round of Touring Masters, round 5, will be held on June 16th with Lime Rock Park being the venue which will host the next three sprint races for the upcoming round of the series.
