Virtual Pirtek Racing Race Review Of CJWilson Racing Cayman Cup

29/4/2016

With its high curved banking and technical twisting infield section Daytona was the setting for round one of the new TORA Porsche racing series sponsored by real world race team CJWilson Racing. The TORA CJWilson Racing Cayman Cup series has seen record amounts of competitors from around the globe sign up for the ten round series partly for the prizes on offer to each round winner, prizes for series overall winner and the best prize of all, the chance of becoming a real world race driver and possibly driving for CJWilson Racing.

Talk of the TORA CJWilson Racing Cayman Cup went viral on social networks further raising the anticipation and excitement on the build up to this series opener. The internet became swamped this week of talk about the series due to the association of CJWilson Racing and their two real world drivers who are set to take part in several of the virtual races throughout the season. With joint association from various sponsors and companies such as Sonic Tools, Continental Tyre, New Balance, Logitech, One Capital and the IMSA, to name but just a few, this highly competitive, high adrenalin and highly physical race series is set to demonstrate the best of the virtual racing worlds skill and give followers an exciting spectacle to watch.

Qualifying for round one on Wednesday night (9pm US & 2am UK) would see lap records for the virtual version of the Daytona track tumble by seconds with each of the four allowed qualifying laps. Virtual Pirtek Racing entered three drivers into the series but due to technical issues suffered by one of the team drivers meant he would miss the opening round and Virtual Pirtek Racing would only see two of their drivers compete in the inaugural round. The Pirtek Porsche has become somewhat virtually famous over the past three years and to continue with the theme Virtual Pirtek Racing unveiled the new Pirtek Porsche Cayman GTS just days before the series got underway.

Select Veepz and AnonCaliga, representing the team, took to the qualifying lobby and completed their four qualifying laps. Select Veepz set a qualifying time of 1:52.536 securing him a 6th place grid position in lobby A. CTech Motorsport / Virtual Pirtek Racing team principal and driver AnonCaliga set a qualifying time of 1:55.374 which would see him start 18th on the race grid in lobby B.
By race start it was immediately evident that the level of driving by all competing in the series was of a very high standard thus making for a very challenging opening round to the series. Select Veepz demonstrated his talent and stayed on the tail of the few cars in front of him which were evidently better equipped with a more suitable setup for the demanding Daytona track, nonetheless Veepz swapped top grid positions throughout the race and managed his tyres and pit strategy tremendously well which seen Veepz claim a 4th position for the first race of the new exciting Cayman series.
AnonCaliga also keep glued to the pack in his lobby B race and swapped positions as he moved through the pack and held 8th place for several laps after a group of cars ahead of him collided which gifted AnonCaliga an easy pass to gain the 8th position, however by the first pit stop Anon would drop back down the field to 14th position. AnonCaliga held the 14th place for several laps until a competitor cut across the front of his car entering the notorious banking at Daytona which caused both cars to collide with the concrete wall. Although AnonCaliga’s car wasn’t suffering major damage from the collision it did however see him drop to the very back of the field again. Mid race and another pit stop would see AnonCaliga gain back two places but his car was losing out in speed to others on the track due to the team opting to use a sixth gear in their pre race testing setup when Daytona is more favourable to five speed cars, due to this lag in power it wasn’t long before AnonCaliga was once again swallowed up by the two cars behind and would see him finish the race in 17th place.

After the race both drivers commended all the competitors that took part in the first round of the series. Both AnonCaliga and Select Veepz spoke of how amazed they were with the high level of race craft and competitiveness they witnessed throughout the one-and-a-half-hour race. Later it was noted that the high level of driving was not just witnessed in lobbies A and B which Virtual Pirtek Racing qualified but also in lobby C making for a thoroughly hard, challenging and exciting series to come over the next several months of this race series.

Round two of the TORA CJWilson Racing Cayman Cup series takes place on Tuesday, May 10th and will see the bumpy concrete surfaces of Sebring as the backdrop of what will undoubtedly be another physically challenging yet spectacular race.
Virtual Pirtek Racing currently hold 8th place in the team standings after the opening round of the series. The long ten round series will come to a conclusion in August.
